At the end of August we held two open days at our factory in Millom, Cumbria.
Around 75 of our contractors and resellers came on each day to see our factory, chat with the Tornado Team and discuss fencing machinery with some of our partner companies.
The day entailed a presentation on the history of the company from our Managing Director Kenny Campbell, a talk from our Operations Director Jonathan Miller (who heads up the site at Millom) on Tornado Wire’s production and quality management, and a tour of the factory’s manufacturing and warehousing facilities. This gave us a chance to show our guests all of the recent development and investment that has gone into our Millom site, as we continue to increase the Tornado production capacity whilst maintaining our quality standards.
We have invested substantially in new buildings and machinery at Millom in 2016/17 – adding a 1,350 sq m finished goods warehouse and a 1,000 sq m raw materials store. Space on the site had been at a real premium following recent manufacturing expansion and these new facilities have made a huge difference to our capacity. We can now hold significant stocks on site in anticipation of seasonal peaks and the opportunity to improve warehouse layout has had a really marked effect on the speed of our picking and despatch activities.
We all had a great day – we always enjoy opportunities to chat with our long-standing customers, and giving the Tornado team a chance to meet customers from other areas who they don’t normally get to see. From the feedback we’ve had so far, everyone enjoyed the factory tour and seeing exactly how the manufacturing process works.
It was mutually beneficial for the Tornado production staff to speak with our contractors – giving both parties a chance to understand the challenges the other faces – and learn more about the practicalities of making Tornado fencing in the factory and installing it out in the field.
We had representatives from Quickfencer, Bryce, Gripple, SoloNet/SoloTrak and Profencer on site who were available to speak with our visitors and demonstrate some of their products.
A big thank you to everyone who made the journey all the way up / down / across to sunny Cumbria – looking forward to the next one!
